Hazardous Area Electric Motor Repairs
At Rotor Technical Services our engineers are trained and experienced in handling ATEX hazardous area repair and overhaul of motors. We understand the considerable dangers when working and conducting repairs in hazardous area repair and overhaul of rotating electrical equipment.
The term ATEX is derived from the French 'ATmospheres EXplosives' and specifies the mandatory requirements for handlers and manufacturers of all hazardous area equipment sold in the European UnionA
All engineers refurbishing EX Flameproof and explosion protected apparatus should be EX trained. It is imperative that the correct procedures and practices are used for the overhaul of explosion protected motors, pumps and other equipment, so they will comply with the original certification to which they were manufactured and /or comply with the original standards.
An area is considered hazardous when there exists a potentially explosive mix of air, flammable gases, or dust in a variety of combinations. Two directives certify ATEX equipment and working practice:
Directive 94/9/EC – ATEX 95 for safety of equipment
Directive 1999/92/EC – ATEX 137 for safety of workers and the workplace
